Typeface Name and Draft
#3210

I have two questions to ask:

1. Is there a way to make a field state the typeface that the field itself
is currently formatted as? Also, any other font characteristics (size,
style, etc.)?

2. Is there a way to change the draft font (available in the normal view)?

I will appreciate any help!

It very much depends on what you want to do with it. If you want the
document to display the information as part of the running text, then I
believe the answer is no -- Word doesn't provide any kind of field that can
retrieve that information. If you simply want to know the info while you're
looking at the screen, then the answer is "yes, but... why?" Looking at the
font name and size boxes on the toolbar will tell you, as will the
Shift+F1-click method.

However, if you *really* want to do it with a field, the only one that fills
the bill is the MacroButton field with an appropriate macro attached. For
instance, you can create the following macro and call it from a {MACROBUTTON
TellMyFont What's My Font?} field. When you double-click the field, the
messagebox will tell you the current font and size.

Sub TellMyFont()
    Dim MyFontName As String, MyFontSize As String
    MyFontName = Selection.Font.Name
    MyFontSize = Str(Selection.Font.Size)
    MsgBox MyFontName + " " + MyFontSize + " pt"
End Sub

Another possibility would be to use a similar macro, but replace the MsgBox
with Selection.TypeText, which would insert the string into the document at
the cursor position. This wouldn't necessarily involve a field, but you
would have to remember to run the macro whenever a change was made (or use
one of the Auto macros).

No, it uses a system font (deliberately, because it's fast). I suppose you
could modify that font if you were especially adventurous and didn't mind
risking a complete system crash...
