I am expirencing lots of problems with my S3 video card amd Win95.
Each time I close a window, I get a solid block of colour left behind
which completely obsures everything making the screen unreadable.
I am using the Win95 default driver for S3 cards. Does anyone know:-
1 are the any later versions of the driver around
or
2 Have a net address for S3 to ask them
TIA
Chris

I have an S3-805 no-name card in my PC at work and it runs fine with Win-95. But that doesn't help you much... What happens if you turn off all optimisation in the S3 driver? Does it still do that? Did you do a clean installation of Win-95 or install over an existing Windows installation? Maybe Win-95 is picking up bits of your old Windows driver. Do you have a COM4? There are reports of S3 graphics cards interfereing with Com4. Microsoft have a patch for this on the MSN. Did your card come with any DOS utilities to set it up eg. refresh rates, VESA drivers or extended resolution enablers. Try either removing or adding them (as necessary). -- Marcus Bainbridge | marcus@guitar.demon.co.uk

How do I do this, the Win3.1 driver had no switches etc or software
to configure the card?

I re-built the system from scratch, but have built it in three
different ways and still had the same problem. Virgin, copy over
Win3.1 and to a seperate directory.

I don't have COM4, just 1 and 2. 3 & 4 map over 1 & 2 don't they?
Mouse is on COM1 and Modem on COM2

Fraid not, but I am just backing up the system, before trying the
Win3.1 drivers rather that Win95 driver

Boot into safe mode (hold down F8 when "Starting Windows-95" appears). Start Control Panel and click on the "System" icon. Select the last tab (Performance?) and there's some buttons at the bottom which change things like file system optimisations and various 32-bit on/offs. The middle one (?) should be for video optimisation, and you can set it from basic bitmap to full Windows optimisation. > I don't have COM4, just 1 and 2. 3 & 4 map over 1 & 2 don't they? No, they use different port addresses. Some serial cards allow you to change the IRQ to something other than 3 and 4, so you can have 4 independent COM ports. -- Marcus Bainbridge | marcus@guitar.demon.co.uk Coming soon - my WWW page of stuff and things. Maybe.
