Re Win95 & Config/Autoexec
I changed from an Adaptec (ASPICD.SYS) to NCR815 (CDROM.SYS)
SCSI card, and made the appropriate changes as follows:-

AUTOEXEC.BAT
 LH /L:1,46544 C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\MSCDEX.EXE /D:MYCD0 /M:15 /L:F
                                                ^^^^^
AUTOEXEC.DOS
 LH /L:1,46544 C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\MSCDEX.EXE /D:MYCD0 /M:15 /L:F
                                                ^^^^^
CONFIG.SYS
 DEVICE=C:\NCRSCSI\CDROM.SYS /D:MYCD0
                   ^^^^^^^^^ ^^^^^
CONFIG.DOS
 DEVICEHIGH /L:1,29376 =C:\NCRSCSI\CDROM.SYS /D:MYCD0
                                   ^^^^^^^^^ ^^^^^

Yet when I reboot Win95 into Win95s-DOS it STILL displays a line
like the above, but with "ASPICD.SYS" and "/D:ASPICD0" on it!

It is using a different autoexec. than EITHER of the above.
All files exist, where they should etc.

- WHERE is it getting it from? <scream>

When 'shuting down to dos' [i.e., 'Restart the computer in MS-DOS Mode'
from the Shutdown panel], the file executed is C:\WINDOWS\DOSSTART.BAT
which was created based on the contents of your autoexec.bat at the time
you first installed win-95.

Not trying to be a pain, but why exactly do you want to list all these
devices in your config.sys and autoexec.bat? The Aspi drivers are all
supported directly by Win95 for sure, although I'm not sure of the one
you switched to. You should only need any of these entries for sessions
when you boot into your old dos only, so the advice given here that you
should make these changes from dos only is good.

My NCR810 SCSI card will only work if I have the drivers listed
in the config and autoexec files. Even though the drivers are
listed in Win 95 they do no/t work for my CDROM. This was the
only way around the problem for me
