I built my current PC about two months ago and had problems with the soundcard vanishing. Sometimes it went halfway through a game or as I started windows etc. After trying lots of combinations of settings, I used the default memory setting and IRQ2. This was working no problem until I switched to Windows95...... At first I had my card set to use a high IRQ like 10. No problem - Win95 was happy. Then I realised I wanted to play games under dos (namely Doom which supports irq 2,5,7) so I chose a lower number. This resulted in my sound card vanishing at periodic intervals when using Win95. Then I forced Win95 to use IRQ2 for my soundcard by editing the registry. I have removed the programmable interrupt controller and everything seems to be running ok. Will this present any long term problems for me. Everything else seems to be running fine (now I have set my ECP printer port to run as a standard printer port and used 'raw' spooling). Has anyone else come across this problem and if so, what did they do about it? Cheers Rob Butler Whizzing along under Win95 beta
