Hi All, We've just set up a Win 95b peer to peer 10mbps RJ45 network. All is fine and dandy with file and printer sharing using IPX/SPX and NetBEUI. What I really want to do is to allow the other terminals to send e-mails through the modem-equipped PC. Can this be done on a very low budget? Internet browsing is not necessary. Has anybody achieved this and if so I would be very grateful if you could let me know how. Cheers, Andy..

Hello, check out http://www.nat32.com Nat32 will allow full internet access to all the pcs on your lan and for a very reasonable cost. Correct me if I'm wrong, but would deleting NetBEUI also disable his file and print sharing abilities? I know IPX can be deleted (except to play LAN games), but I tried to install only TCP/IP on my 5 computer LAN, and though communication was available, file and print sharing was gone. Any special settings you need to do for file sharing to work with TCP/IP only? -- Steven C. King spcking@hotmail.com http://otto.cmr.fsu.edu/~kings/ "The way to do is to be."

No special setup required. You might need to use find to locate your other computers. Make sure F&P is bound to Tcpip and unbind all others.

Additional to Stuarts suggestions:
Check out Wingate (you can download it from www.winfiles.com).
The other PC will have to setup the mail as:
POP Server: <machine running wingate>
User name: <username>#mail.easynet.co.uk
Password: <whatever>
SMTP Server: <machine running wingate>

Modem: Lasat Safire 288, vPop National 08453. Telecom C&W
PC: Knocked up P75/16MB/1GB OS: Win95 4.00.950a.

Andy Suppose M is the computer with the modem and A is the other machine. 1. Set up internet working (TCP/IP and the dial up adapter) on M in the usual way; 2. Set up Netbeui on both machines and ensure they both have the same Workgroup; 3. Place Pegasus Mail email client software and the mailboxes on M. (Resist temptation to place an email client on A.) Place Mercury/32 on M; 4. Set up Pegasus to "Never" use Winsock. Configure MercuryX to dial-up your ISP, send internet mail, retrieve internet mail at fixed intervals (eg every 2 hours); With this setup, users can compose emails offline and queue them for sending during the next MercuryX window and download mails from the ISP's POP3 server in the same window. Local mails between A and M, which need no telephone dial-up, are distributed by Mercury continuously. See my web page for how to get Pegasus and Mercury - they are both free. Note that Pegasus CAN be run over a network. When a user on A starts it up, s/he gets an INSTANCE of the pegasus program from M but running on A. >Cheers, > >Andy.. All computers should probably have TCP/IP. You dont need other protocols.
Unless you have a WINS server, be sure to use the LMHOSTS file. Set your
outgoing SMTP server to be the computer with a modem. If you need to
receive data through the computer with modem, make sure it is either set to
forward IP packets (not supported by many dial-in ISPs), or have a POP server
installed on the computer with modem. You should also have software on your
computer with modem that will retrieve mail from your ISP email accounts.
For file and printer sharing, make sure you have "File and Printer Sharing" for
Microsoft Networks.
The private IP address spaces are:
10.0.0.0 thru 10.255.255.255 1-class-A
172.16.0.0 thru 172.31.255.255 16-class-B
192.168.0.0 thru 192.168.255.255 256-class-C
