'just to let you know that the network card is in and working!

The following approach worked.....

1. 'removed the card entry from Device Manager and then physically
removed the card from the machine, re-booted and then noted all the
allocated IRQs etc from Device Manager using the Print button etc. As
it happens I did not need this info but it was interesting to know
how to get it!

2. re-booted using f8 to get to the command prompt in DOS and then
ran the SMC utility called ezstart.exe. It seems that either the SMC
8416 card is non PnP or this had already been disabled by someone
else...Saved the ezstart settings and all the tests were passed.

3. re-booted and got "SMC Ethernet card" message to put the Win95 CD
ROM in. Did so and the drivers were loaded from it.

4. Set up the MS TCP/IP and the card could ping its own address so all

seems well. The man with the card for the unix box comes soon so we
will see if the 2 machines can talk to each other!

Many thanks for your help.

Cheers
