Inactive Phone Lines and 3com Homeconnect Network

I currently have 2 active phone lines, and 2 computers running Windows
98SE networked through line 2 using a 3COM Homeconnect network. I am
also sharing a DSL internet connection through the network which comes
into the house on line 1. I would like to get rid of line 2 due to the
expense as it is no longer used, except for the network. If I have
line 2 disconnected and the line is therefore inactive, will my
network still work on line 2? Intuitively, it seems to me that the
wires are still there so the network should work, but I do not know if
the phone line needs to be active for some reason. I have not been
able to ferret anything out on this. Any advice?

You can certainly share the same line that your DSL is on. The home
phoneline network uses a different part of the frequency band than
either the DSL or telephone.
Only the voice phone, or any other analog device, fax, etc., get a
filter. The network and DSL adapter/modem do not.
I have the same setup.
