Sharing internal DSL modem

I have an internal 3com PCI DSL modem in a computer which is part of a
network
and running Win98se...
Win98se Internet Connection Sharing wouldn't allow me to share the DSL
modem...

Is there any way I can share this DSL modem with other computers on my
network
,and what options would be available to me concerning this ?

Try sharing the connection that is created when the 3Com stuff is installed
instead of the modem itself? I'm trying to remember which one I actually
enabled ICS on when I had the 3Com. I do know that it was not the modem
itself.

After many attempts to get MS ICS working I finally gave up. Then I
installed Sygate Home Networking and it worked just fine with very
little effort on my part. I did have to turn off Zone Alarm to get it to
work, but after it was up and running I could use ZA on a medium
security setting. I finally opted for Sygate's personal firewall, which
seems to work better than ZA for me.

BTW, my internal PCI DSL modem is a SpeedStream 3060 and I'm running
Win98SE, but I think the issues with ICS are the same.
FWIW, I'm using Linksys PCI NIC cards in the remote computers and have
no complaints with their performance.

Sharing either the dialup adaptor or the dialup connection should work.

Merlin-
I have a 3Com PCI internal modem/BS Fast Access DSL service- and was wondering
how to share the DSL connection with another home system...got some great
advice from several "wireheads" as well as the BSNet tech I called.

Try All Aboard for ICS software - www.internetshare.com- I used a 25' Cat5
ethernet cable (crossover cable) and physically connected 2 computers (both
Win98SE) with ethernet 10/100 cards- setup took about 1 hour, including
installation of an ethernet card in the host and installation of software.
Cheap ($12 for ethernet cable; $20 for 10/100 - one system already had a 10/100
installed, and $50 for software). Simple, rugged, easy, reliable.

Just remember to "tweak" both computers per DSLReports (www.dslreports.com)-
set DefaultRcvWindow and MaxMTU and you're "good to go"!

Have used the system for about 1 month with no problems- both users are happy
to have DSL- we'll never go back to dialup (except in dire emergency). Try it,
you'll like it!

My family shares a single ADSL connection on a Windows 98SE peer-to-peer
10BaseT network with 5 machines.

I'd recommend you uninstall Windows Connection Sharing and use a proxy
instead.

I use a freeware proxy from Analog-X
(http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/proxy.htm) and a freeware
personal firewall from Tiny Software
(http://www.tinysoftware.com/pwall.php). The setup's been working great for
more than a year now.

Bad advise.. Best bet is to spend $100 and get a DSL/CABLE router. LinkSys
BEFSR41. Plug and play. No geeking around with proxy's for years to not
make it work.

I second the suggestion to use AnalogX's Proxy software. I was never
able to get Win98SE's ICS working but Proxy was up and running within
a few minutes.

Thanks for the recommendation, Linda. I just downloaded and installed
it, and had it up and running in less than 5 minutes (that included
reading the text file).

personally i'd recommend a 3com or cisco, but you're on the right track.
any of these should do NAT routing, and allow you to plug the router (it's
NOT a "modem" - and that's a GOOD thing!!!) directly into a switch or hub.
MUUUCH MUUUUUUCH better.
