As much as I like to scoff at MS I'll have to admit that hooking up a couple of NT Workstations is pretty easy. Almost automatic. I'm sure you can do it. Here's how I did it and what I recommend. I support a large NT network at work but at home I run a peer-to-peer setup and this works good for me. Buy: RG58 Coax cable (also called ThinLan and 10base2) to connect the two machines. Also you'll need two 50ohm "terminators" and two "T's" to properly connect and terminate your machines. Two Network Interface Cards (NIC's). I'd recommend not scraping here but buy good 3com cards. You can get 3com cards like the 509 series for around $150.00 each. Make sure these are capable of handling ThinLan 10base2 cable. Install: The cards, the cable and T's and terminators. Also go into the software install and install the "adapters" using the Control Panel | Network | Adapter | Add button. Install NetBuei and TCP/IP for protocols on each machine. Give each machine (in this same section) a "simple" unique NetBuei name of 8 characters or less (each machine needs it own private name) and give your workgroup a workgroup name (same on both machines). I just used the default "workgroup" but you can change it if you like. Reboot everything and VIOLA, you'll be networking (grin)! Really. It's almost this easy. NT automatically sets virtually everything as sharable by default so this should work without a lot of configuration. -Frank dlnorris@worldnet.att.net wrote in message <644vqd$5o5@mtinsc03.worldnet.att.net>... >I need to be able to transfer files back and forth between 2 machines. >Both run NT 4.0 Workstation. > >Microsoft's NT manual isn't a whole lot of help. > >Anyone know where I can find a source of instructions for MINIMUM >settings required on both machines - especially with an eye toward >mimimum amount of administrative stuff? > >Please E-mail to: dlnorris@wordnet.att.net
