Leased Line And Servers

We are going to connect via 64K leased line NetWare servers or Windows
NT servers that is geologically 300 kilometers away, namely from
Taipei to Kaosiung, the two biggest cities in Taiwan. We want these
servers to be connected as if they are in the same LAN, and provide
network file systems at the same time. Alternatively, we may want
these servers to be connected with some network protocols, say TCP/IP
or IPX/SPX, so that we can run programs on top of them.
But I have never seen a 'leased line', I don't know what it looks
like. Please tell me the following questions about it:
1. What kind of cable will the Telecom pull into our buildings ?
2. How do we connect that cable to our servers ? Do we need any modems
? Do we need any LAN cards ? What kinds of connectors do we need ? Do
What kinds of cable do we need ?
3. What are the protocols that will be needed to connect these servers
? What are the protocols of data link layer, network layer, transport
layer, session layer ? What services of these servers do I need
configure ?
4. How do the Telecom connect these leased lines between the two
cities ?
5. What differences are there among the different speeds of leased
lines, namely 9.6K, 1.44K, 1.92K, ..., 64K, 128K, ..., 1.544M, etc.
Thanks in advance.

Depends on what type of leased line you purchase, but they will probably be
able to just use the existing cable.

You need routers. These will connect to the telcom leased line and then to
the local LAN. Talk to your vendors about them and what they require.

Depends on if you use a dedicated line or get into ATM or Frame Relay. The
best source of info should be the router vendor.

Depends on what you purchase, but for the most part you don't care as long as
it works. Telcom is required to give you a standard interface point in each
building and that what is important to you.

The faster the speed, the more it costs. So ask what Telcom what their price
is for each service. An Ethernet LAN runs at 10Mbps and you are showing the
bps speed for each service. So the best you can probably purchase is a T1 or
1.544 Mbps or about 1/10th of the speed of the local lan.
