I have a problem with the Floppy on a new NT install. I did "something" (possibly TweakUI / Explorer changes!) Later I found that the a: drive is not accessible. I get an error box saying [A:\ is not accessible The parameter is incorrect] There is nothing wrong with the hardware - a "backup" NT installation on a different partition on the same machine works fine. I suspect I have a bad entry in the registry. I have tried repairing the system, but no improvement (the repair registry must also be bad). I have tried comparing text dumps of the registry from the two machines, but can't see anything relevant. But the main installation has a lot of apps, and utilities installed - so the registries are very different. I suspect its the parameters passed by explorer that are wrong, but have no idea why they would be different in the case of a floppy than a hard drive - they work OK. I get the same error [The parameter is incorrect] if id do a Dir in a Dos prompt. Changing to drive A in a dos box gives [The system cannot find the drive specified]. Before I scrub the system partition and spend the rest of Christmas reinstalling and setting up applications - does anyone have any ideas!! Regards -- Peter R Cook

I've had this one with a CD drive under NT, for no apparent explicable reason - cured it by re-assigning the drive letter using Disk Administrator. That's obviously not an option for a floppy, but it may point you in the right direction. -- Peter Hutchinson pwh.news@hutch.org.uk This message brought to you by the language C and the number F.

TweakUI has a tab which allows the users to shut out access to the drives. Forgot what that tab is called, but go through TweakUI and one of the tabs will present a list of all drive letters. If it is this simple, as I hope for your sake, have a merry Christams without the joy of reinstalling!!!
