Here's the situation: 1) 6.4 GB HD, using a boot manager like bootmagic (called masterbooter) that switches the selected partition active and hides the other ones 2) Installed 95 on first partition 3) Installed Linux on third partition, with an extended partition after that and a logical swap partition 4) Attempted to install NT on second partition (formated FAT).. it got to the part of setup where it reboots and attempts to load the blue screen 5) rebooted and tried to select the partition but it stopped dead.. 6) looked at NT partition.. it has the boot files there, just doesn't want to boot 7) tried over without a boot manager (had NT partition load with dos, that worked fine, until NT tried to reboot again and no luck.) any sugguestions? i think im missing something here :) Thanks all, -Jesse [ jesse @ starmail . com ]

Most boot managers aren't OK to use with NT ...why? because NT places critical boot-info OUTSIDE the partition!!! and your boot-manager program isn't designed to handle that. Actually most boot managers will work with NT just fine. The problem here may simply be the partition number is screwy. Check the boot.ini and see what partition number it's pointing to. You might need to change it to point to a difference number (2 vice 1). Also you might have problems if the Win95 partition is FAT32. -Chris >Jesse Courchaine <jesse@starmail.com> wrote in message >news:37560585.20A70F89@starmail.com... >> Here's the situation: >> 1) 6.4 GB HD, using a boot manager like bootmagic (called masterbooter) >> that switches the selected partition active and hides the other ones >> 2) Installed 95 on first partition >> 3) Installed Linux on third partition, with an extended partition after >> that and a logical swap partition >> 4) Attempted to install NT on second partition (formated FAT).. it got >> to the part of setup where it reboots and attempts to load the blue >> screen >> 5) rebooted and tried to select the partition but it stopped dead.. >> 6) looked at NT partition.. it has the boot files there, just doesn't >> want to boot >> 7) tried over without a boot manager (had NT partition load with dos, >> that worked fine, until NT tried to reboot again and no luck.) >> >> any sugguestions? i think im missing something here :) >> >> Thanks all, >> -Jesse [ jesse @ starmail . com ] > >

If you install your windows nt on your 1st partition it is going to work. As far as I know windows nt have to be on the 1st partiotion to boot Jesse Courchaine wrote: > Here's the situation: > 1) 6.4 GB HD, using a boot manager like bootmagic (called masterbooter) > that switches the selected partition active and hides the other ones > 2) Installed 95 on first partition > 3) Installed Linux on third partition, with an extended partition after > that and a logical swap partition > 4) Attempted to install NT on second partition (formated FAT).. it got > to the part of setup where it reboots and attempts to load the blue > screen > 5) rebooted and tried to select the partition but it stopped dead.. > 6) looked at NT partition.. it has the boot files there, just doesn't > want to boot > 7) tried over without a boot manager (had NT partition load with dos, > that worked fine, until NT tried to reboot again and no luck.) > > any sugguestions? i think im missing something here :) > > Thanks all, > -Jesse [ jesse @ starmail . com ]
