Is Windows NT compatible to MS-DOS?

We have Novell 3.11 for e-mail only. My employees do not need to use
Windows NT, but they can only use e-mails through Novell server.

I have to decide to dump Novell away and I will buy Windows NT to
install in the new server. I want all employees' e-mail accounts to be
moved to Windows NT. Do you know where can I find special software that
allow them to use e-mail through Windows NT server so they do not need to
run Windows NT?

Why would you WANT to install NT4?

Install Slackware 4.0 (available for about $40) and run Linux.

Runs the Unix standard "sendmail" which is probably the most reliable and
versatile mail server in the industry.

Fully POP3 compatible with all your W95/8 mail clients and will run on
modest hardware for months at a time without having to reboot or handhold.
Excellent remote configuration either by telnet or WWW so mailserver can
hide in closet and be administered from any client, anywhere on your net or
even the Internet. Very secure, reliable, robust and inexpensive.

Just one guys opinion.

Best regards,

Brian

Hi:

You people? Tinker? Cram?

This person is going to purchase and install NT4 on a new computer. This is
a sizeable investment and a steep learning curve?

How about the headaches of purchasing NT4, BackOffice, purchasing a support
contract, purchasing new hardware and ramping up on the bizarre NT4
methodology.

Not everybody needs the headache of learning NT4! Mail is important to a
business and NT4 is no picnic to administer - what happens when it takes a
shit AND IT WILL!

I could walk a person through an install of a Slackware 4.0 Linux system
over the phone, including compiling a custom kernel and all networking -
probably in less than 2 hours. I could then do all the administration of
sendmail & pop3 (mail), Apache (Web server), named (DNS server), samba (file
& print server for Windows) and almost everything else by telnet from my
front room.

I am sorry that you were offended by my attempt to save this a guy a bucket
of money, a ton of time and some massive headaches.

Linux is more than able to run a mailserver serving 100s of employees on a
PPro150, 64Mb DRAM and a couple gig HD. You can keep it in a locked closet
and remotely administer it - very secure.

>I've said my piece. Good luck to you all.

>Oh, and wasn't this a TNT2 thread?

What?

Just one guys opinion.
