I've been messing with this for awhile and not having much luck. What I have is 2 hard drives, one 3.2G EIDE and one 9.1G SCSI. I have an adeptec card set to boot the SCSI drive. i installed NT 4.0 on the SCSI and then WIN 98 on the IDE with the SCSI disconnected. Either will work fine independently of each other (only one drive connected at a time) but I would like to leave them both on at the same time. When I make the SCSI the active partition I get the error "NONE FOUND [ACTIVE PARTITION] ON HDD" when it tries to hit the OS. When I make the IDE the active partition, WIN 98 loads fine. I have tried many things. One was to put a parititon magic boot partition in the IDE and use that to select WIN 98 and NT. It would select 98 fine but when i selected NT I just got a blinking cursor. I have also tried system commmander (on the IDE) which will work one cycle through then when I reboot, I get the "NONE FOUND [ACTIVE PARTITION] ON HDD" error again. Ideally I would like to use the NT boot loader to go to 98. Is any of this possible? Thanks for any help.

It may have been easier to load Win98 first, with the C: being FAT16. Then add NT. It would put a few boot files on C:, but the rest could be on your SCSI. I think the boot sector is seeing two active partitions and getting very confused. The above would essentially mean your IDE would be the 'boot' drive, but it's effect on NT should be minimal if nothing other than the boot files are on the IDE. If your NT drive is formatted NTFS, Win98 won't even know it's there. Mike Kooiker wrote: > I've been messing with this for awhile and not having much luck. Have you selected the primary partition of NT into the boot manager? If you select the NTFS partition this is not the place where the boot files are located. It should work if you select the (may be small) FAT boot partition into the boot managers menu. Andreas

The way to do this is to install Win98 first and then install NT. One problem I experienced when doing this was the incompatibility of NT and FAT32. Install Win98 first on a regular FAT 16 partition. Then install NT. NT can be on NTFS. NT will detect the Win98 install and add it to the boot.ini file. When you start the computer you should get a boot menu with three selections: Window NT Workstation 4.0, Windows NT Workstation 4.0 (VGA), and Microsoft Windows. This is what I have on my PC at home. I use NT for everything but games. By doing this you shouldn't have to deal with making partitions active or anything. SB

That is something i didn't think of doing. Make a small 5mb FAT16 partition for the boot loader and then you can make win98 FAT32, and NT NTFS. But then you absolutely can't exchange files even one way hehe. Dave Erickson Andreas Hofmann wrote in message <35C8A2C1.D6D7DFBF@usa.net>... >Mike Kooiker wrote: > >> I have >> tried many things. Why can't you just install windows 98 on a Fat32 partition, and then install WinNT with the boot disks on another one as NTFS? you could install WinNT on c: and Win98 on d:. This is not meant to offend anyone, I just want to know because I want to dual boot 98 an NT.
