Modem setup

I am attempting to configure a laptop with NT 4.0. It has an internal LT
Winmodem which is not detected during bootup. The modem is configured in
the bios and is on com 2, address 02F8. These are the only configurable
settings I can find. IRQ 3 is free, along with the address. How can I get
windows to recognize the port?

Sincerely,
Chris Kochis

Have u tried using Control Panel > Modems > Add and letting Windows search
for the modem on all avalible ports. If that does not work maybe your modem
is in the drivers list ocf the manual configuration.

Does that modem come with NT 4.0 drivers?

Quite simply, Winmodems DO NOT work with NT. Like the Windows printers
too. Will work with 95, but NOT NT.

Hmm... I've been under the impression that winmodems only worked with Winbloze
95. The reason they're so cheap is they are missing hardware, comm drivers and
they rely on windows to do it for them. In any case, I'd suggest ditching the
Losemodem and buying a Real Modem.

I got the driver from USR site in France and had it (incl a winmodem icon in the
control panel) loaded up. It seems working and using the right irq except that it
does not detect a dial tone. The modem works perfectly fine under win95 and 98 so
I know it is NTWS4 that is of problem.

Any input would be appreciated? I know I am close in resolving this??

I think that there is now NT support for the USR Winmodem (But I wouldn't be
surprised if this file is pulled from the web, so grab it while you can.):

ghntv90.exe 619 KB (5-19-98): V.90 Upgrade for the Greyhound WinModem (Windows
NT 4.0 version).
http://www.micronpc.com/support/file_lib/bbs/modem.html

(Greyhound = 3Com/USR Winmodem:)
http://www.micronpc.com/support/faq/topissues/ts19107.html
For the U.S. Robotics X2 Data/Fax WinModem, please refer to the document titled
TS19112 - V90 Upgrade for the 3COM 56K WinModem (Greyhound) In Windows 95. It is
available here.

:
NT drivers for the LT Winmodems are available from a number of sites, including
Lucent. The latest drivers I have found are v.90 version 5.09, and links to the
sites are on my web page. (See the 5/24 update).

For a 1st time installation, Control Panel->Modems->Add->Don't detect/havedisk,
specify folder where the downloaded files reside.

For an upgrade, all that is necessary is to copy the new/updated LTMODEM.SYS
file to the \winnt\system32 directory and re-boot; if the .inf file has changed
(as it did with v.90 to enumerate the additional connect rates), the .inf file
must also be replaced.

Richard
