Applications won't run on NT 4.0 (can't find dlls)

Hi,

Can any one help me? Visual C++ 4.1 no longer runs on my machine.

My initial investigations have led me to believe that VC++ isn't able to
find the required dlls in the WINNT\SYSTEM32 directory. The dlls are there,
if I copy them into the same directory as the executable it runs fine.

I've checked the path and environment variables, WINNT\SYSTEM32 is in the
path, so it's obviously a deeper problem.

Thanks in advance,
John Ward

The system should search WINNT/System32 either as the dir returned
from GetSystemDirectory or in the PATH variable. Since the search
order for DLLs is (from MSDN):

1.	The directory from which the application loaded.
2.	The current directory.
3.	Windows NT: The 32-bit Windows system directory. Use the
GetSystemDirectory function to get the path of this directory. The
name of this directory is SYSTEM32.
4.	Windows NT: The 16-bit Windows system directory. There is no
Win32 function that obtains the path of this directory, but it is
searched. The name of this directory is SYSTEM.
5.	The Windows directory. Use the GetWindowsDirectory function to
get the path of this directory.
6.	The directories that are listed in the PATH environment
variable.

I wonder if you might have old version(s) of the DLLs in the current
directory (presumably your user dir).
