I haven't installed VC++ 5.0 yet, one reason being an uncertainty (or fear) over how it uses Internet Explorer. The use of IE is not explained very well in anything accessible to me before installation. It's as if Microsoft takes it as given that I should think Internet Explorer is the natural tool for viewing files stored on my own hard disk. I just don't have the time or inclination to try it and see - especially not after all the installing, uninstalling and reinstalling involved with version 4.1 (which I note that Microsoft does not want to allow a refund on). So, does VC++ 5.0 handle the on-line help files like Front Page handles my web site, with a Personal Web Server so that files in the relevant directory of my hard disk (or maybe CD-ROM) get a URL with an http protocol? And if I do indeed have the on-line help copied to my hard disk, does IE still cache everything I read (so that I end up with two copies on my hard disk)? -- Geoff Chappell Software Analyst For email address change host to ozemail.com.au Web site in directory ~geoffch at www.ozemail.com.au
