Good Books are a Religious Issue with programmers, so your mileage may vary
on this, but I was pleasantly impressed by "Win32 Programming" by Brent E.
Rector and Joseph M. Newcomer (Addison-Wesley, 1997). ISBN: 0-201-63492-9.
It's fairly up-to-date, sticks to procedural code, has many examples and is
well-written.
