I have seen ONE product called TapeDisk that claims that it can make accessing a
SCSI tape drive as if it were a regular HD (besides performance of course). I
uess that what it does is to install a new file system and mounts the tape drive
as a drive letter.
Last weekend, i also saw on the Arcada software that they too, were aout to
release a similar product (although, it is quite funny, they claim that their
product is entirely new, and revolutionary, as if TapeDisk did not exist).
Does anyone have any experience with such a product. Is it common to be able to
mount a tape drive directly into the file system of an OS? Linux? NT? Solaris?
If it were, it would make more sense to use a tape drive that way and use
standard tools like Zip, Tar, or simply copy...
Where is the catch? Am i missing something? Or is it simply one of these things
that everyone knows about, but which is unknown to lowly indows users?
{:)
Thanks,
Laurent.
