Wang's Form Editor, which is part of Lan Recognition Server for OPEN/image, does what you are describing. This is a pretty common need for forms processing. Our implementation lets the user draw rectangles around areas that are expected to have data in them. Then, at recognition time, these rectangles are used when looking at parts of the image for OCR. Our implementation was pretty easy because we used the O/i IDK. I looked around to see if there was anything available as freeware or shareware, and if there was anything that we could license, instead of developing it from the ground up. I didn't find anything that would fill our needs. Hope this helps, Regards, Dave -- Dave Bushong, Wang Laboratories, Inc.
