Opinions: Borland Paradox Engine

Borland has recently sent me a certificate for the Paradox Engine 3.0 & Data-
base Frameworks 3.0

I would like to know what kind of experiences y'all have had with this highly
touted (by Borland) package.

Is it worth the price ($210.00)? Does it really make your C++ programming life
easier? How viable is it in light of Microsoft's (et al) standard (I forget the
name...ODBC is it?)?

I'd like to hear recommendations for similar packages (i.e. dbase access
libraries in C++) as well.

Thanks

I have been using the PDox engine for about a year, on and off. It is a good
product, very simple to use ... however, as one would expect, it will only
create, edit, manipulate database which are in the "paradox" format. I
consider it to be a good add on product which is used in conjunction to using
the Paradox Data Product. Using only the engine, without paradox would be
quite cumbersome.

The paradox engine is ideal if you are already familiar with the Paradox
product. There are some applications where the Paradox Product does not offer
the flexibility. One such instance we ran into was faxing forms out of the
Paradox environment. The engine was used to build a CAS driver which worked
while using the paradox enviorment. Good luck.
