Hi all, Is it possible to use an ActiveX control in a Non-MFC/Non-OWL app ? I make pure API C/C++ windows applications, and I'd like to use an ActiveX control. How ?? With VC++ ? With Borland C++ 5.x ? Thanks. Please also reply to email:phuyghe@roularta.be

It's possible - but far from easy. When I had to do this before I ended up including MFC just for it's control hosting functionality, and used my own API code for everything else. I've had the same problem with DAO - unfortunately MS just don't document how to do anything without MFC anymore. If you have a good understanding of COM and OLE, you can write it all from scratch, and it isn't too hard (unless you're doing it in C). You only need to support three or four COM interfaces (a lot of their methods can be simple one-liners). The ATL class libraries in VC++ 5.0 provide a lot of utility classes that make COM objects and interfaces easy to implement and use. VC++ also has several utility classes (outside of ATL - in comdef.h) for wrapping interface pointers and handling BSTRs, etc. There's a sample ATL container application (called ATLCON) which shows you which interfaces you need to support to host an ActiveX control. I think you can get away with only two. -- Jason Shannon http://www.araxis.com

Yes it's possible, yes, it's also a pain. Enough of a pain that I
suspect you're going to have a hard time finding much documentation,
though as I recall, MS should have a few examples around.
