How to change modem settings in windows 3.1?
#24

I'm asking this for a colleague in another part of the country, so I
can't see his machine.

When he tries to dial in his modem makes a continuous noise for a few
minutes before giving up and retrying. I've suggested he check his modem
settings and make sure he has the correct initialise string, but he
cannot find where it is and I have completely forgotten having got used
to 95 :-)

To attempt connection he double-click an internet mail icon and it
automatically dial, but there is nothing in that program to check the
modem.

He also has Internet Explorer 3, but View, Options is greyed.

It's there somewhere, can anyone help?

TIA

I remember there was a file in the Turnpike directory with a similar
name to what the modem was called. For my Supra 28.8 it was sup28i.mdm
or something like that. You can edit it with notepad.

On the same subject, now I have gotten used to Win 95, how can I check
what dial string is being used ???

Hi there,

Not sure if this is what you are after, but you can check the modem's
initialization string in Notepad. Assuming he is using Microsoft Internet
Explorer, go File, Open and type c:\iexplore\modems2.ini

He can change/remove the initialization string here.

Hope it helps.

Anne
