Does anyone know why some systems tend to lock the keyboard out when the password prompt is presented in WFWG? I have to reboot two or three times to get round this. -- David Longley Longley Consulting London, UK Behaviour Assessment & Profiling Technology, Research, Data Analysis and Training Services, Small IT Systems http://www.longley.demon.co.uk

What's the rest of the spec? Even slow systems _should_ be able to accept keystrokes as well as doing a little housekeeping. TB

Does anyone know why some systems tend to lock the keyboard out when the password prompt is presented in WFWG? I have to reboot two or three times to get round this. Keyboards are new, and it doesn't happen on all machines. -- David Longley Longley Consulting London, UK Behaviour Assessment & Profiling Technology, Research, Data Analysis and Training Services, Small IT Systems http://www.longley.demon.co.uk

I cannot recall an instance of this in all my years of using
WfWg. (And I still use it for MIDI and related things.)
Nor can I think of a mechanism for this to happen.
How 'locked' is the keyboard. e.g. does the caps lock still
work etc?
Regards,
Harry.

Keyboard is frozen. I *have* seen this before, I just can't
recall the solution. My bet is on the NIC or caching. Odd thing
is there are 13 machines which are basically all the same and it
only happens on a few.

Hm. I take it that the mouse still works. I would say that there
is a problem with the the keyboard driver unit. The reboots
might be allowing it to warm up a bit and then work. If it *is* this
then it's new motherboard time in lots of cases.
You *might* try varying the A20 gate setting (which is on the same
chip) to see if that helps - but this is a bit clutching at straws!
I'll have a look at my copy of the Resource Kit when I get home
to see if there is any clue there.
Regards,
Harry.
