This can happen when your 32 Bit Disk access is not working.

Check Start/Settings/System/Performance. if it says MSDOS
compatibility mode, this must be fixed to say 32 BIT or no animated
cursors will work. I have no idea what could be making your drives
appear in MSDOS mode.

Hi Allan:

Have you fixed this problem yet? I am also wondering
how to enable animated cursors in the registry. If you find
out I would really appreciate a reply as I will help a friend
and also, add it into my FAQ list at the URL below.

Thanks and regards,

There are two requirements for animated cursors in Windows 95:

 - Protected-mode (32 bit) disk drivers

 - A Windows 95-compatible display driver that meets certain spec's
(some that are *incompatible* include ATI Ultra, Diamond Viper, and the
standard VGA and Super VGA drivers) - make sure that you're running a
custom driver (not the standard VGA one) for your hardware. there's
probably more information in the Microsoft knowledge base.

microsoft also notes that certain boot-sector viruses can prevent
animated cursors from working so a virus scan is always a good idea.

Hi
When I had trouble with animated cursors the problem was with the video
card. Some cards will not support animated cursors. I don't know which will
or won't. But if you have an accelerated card with 2meg memory or its says
it will in the docs then it should. Make sure you visit the web site of the
cards manufacturer and get the latested drivers.

Cursors stop animating when the disk drive is in MSDOS compatability
mode. This usually occurs when there isn't a driver for a particular
HD controller, or when a real-mode device driver is used to access an
EIDE drive on a system that does not support LBA mode.

I had an Avance Logic 2302 video card that wouldn't support animated
cursors. The cursors would only appear in black and white as well. As
soon as I swapped to a Diamond Stealth the cursors came alive.

This is exactly right. I had a problem with my controller card win95
drivers that I just got straightened out last night, and bingo!, my
animated cursors started working. Took me 2 months to figure out I left the
DOS disk-controller drivers in autoexec.bat. Go figure.

This is starting to sound like a problem I've had. Every now and then
my OS slips into MSDOS compatibility mode, the system slows down and the
animated cursors stop working. Sooner or later it all comes back on by
itself.
Now, is that because I've "left the DOS disk-controller drivers in
autoexec.bat"? Which drivers are these, and where am I supposed to put
them?

Hi Allan,

Animated cursors have an extension of ani. If the cursor still does
not have the animation, check the system properties, preformance tab
to see if the system is in dos compatability mode. The loss of the
animated cursor is generally the first indication that the system has
droped to dos compatability mode for some reason.

			Hope this helps
