I have a full back up of my win95 system on a networked pc's hard
drive.
I have xcopy'd (in a dos box) my win95 over to my new hard drive.
I made the new hard drive primary partition acive and then rebooted
with the old win 95 hard drive disconnected, the new win95 stopped
aftter loading all the other drivers with a message saying it was
missing a device necessary for VFAT to operate (didnt say which
device mind) further attempts using safe mode, step by step and logged
loads failed to reveal what was missing.
So with nothing to lose IMO I reinstalled win95 over the new hard
drives win95.
Boots up fine after a few tweaks. Great I think...I'll just have a
quick log on to the net......'cant open com3' where my modem is.
quit out of win 95 and try 'askmodem'in dos; still cant open com 3 .
Back into win 95 and check out the device managers etc; everything
says that com3 is fine .
At this point I panic and think ive zapped my modem with some stray
static and feverishly reconnect my old hard drive but no everyhting is
fine.
Im am bloody baffled.
Why does xcopy not do the trick ?
I used c:\windows\command\XCOPY c: d: /s/e/c/r/h/k.
Has it got something to do with the FAT?

Why doesnt the bloody modem work?

Im prepared to reformat the new hard drive and try to restore the new
system from the backup (win95 back up prog) to the new drive.
Will I have problems with the vfat thing again?
Is there something I should do at with fdisk or sys that I dont know
about with win95?

Why did I leave 3.11? (*sob*)

Download a copy of Ghost from www.ghostsoft.com - it's the easiest, pain
free way I've ever seen of moving your hard disk contents from one drive
to another. After transferring my own drive contents with this, I'm
about to buy a multiple user licence for work.
