Help! I can't boot of drive C anymore - here's the story I've got 2 drives, C and D On drive C I've got windows 3.1 I recently put in drive D. Partitioned it for windows 3.1 and Linux. I installed another copy of windows 3.1 on drive D (in preparation for win95). I used LILO boot manager to boot between win 3.1 (C), win 3.1 (D), and Linux. Things were working fine. Then I installed Windows 95 Upgrade Version on drive D. I don't know what it did, but now I can't boot win 3.1/DOS off drive C. I'm getting a non-system disk error message. I don't even know why it even TOUCHED drive C because I didn't want it to. So the question is: how do I make drive C bootable again (without formatting it again) ? thanks, -- Simon (simc@mundil.cs.mu.oz.au)

As far as I know, Win95 system files has to be on the first hard drive (C:\), even you install the whole thing on say d:\windows That way, Win95 will put new version of io.sys and msdos.sys and command.com on the c:\, overwriting the dos version. Another thing is Win95 installation always rewrites the boot sector in order to reboot straight into Win95 during installation. I don't know how LILO works, in case of OS/2 boot manage, what you have to do is that after the installation, boot to command prompt, and fdisk, set the boot manage partition(very small) active. Hope this has some help. -- Nikol Su email: nsu@zip.com.au Phone: 0411 336239 Frank's Compware - Check prices here before you buy hardware http://www.zip.com.au/~nsu
