Can not get the MS-DOS prompt icon working in version 3.1

I recently transfer files from two IBM PS/2 286 computers to 2 new 486SX/25
computers. The 486SX/25s all have 4MB RAM and 110MB hard drive. After the
Windows 3.1 files are all transfered, i reinstall Windows 3.1 again to get
the 486SX/25s to run in enhanced mode. It now can run DOS apps in a Window,
etc.

When I double-click on the MS-DOS prompt icon in Main Program Group, I can not
get a DOS prompt! I reinstalled Windows again, it still does not work. All
I got is "Application Execution Error, No application is associated with the
specified file. Create an association by using File Manager." The MS-DOS icon
is using the PIF that comes with Windows.

You may not have the PIF file set up correctly, BECAUSE the
COMMAND.COM might not be where the original PIF file expected it.
In the old days it was always in the root directory of the hard
drive, but now it usually ends up in the C:\DOS directory or
something like that, courtesy of DOS 5.0. Here's what you do:
first, exit Windows and find out JUST where COMMAND.COM lives
on your system. For this example, let's say it's in C:\DOS5.
Now, go into Windows; open group MAIN, select PIF EDITOR, select FILE,
select OPEN, and look for DOSPRMPT.PIF. (If you can't find it,
and it SHOULD be in your Windows directory itself, quit and choose
NEW to create DOSPRMPT.PIF)
Set: Program Filename to: COMMAND.COM
         Window Title to: MS-DOS Prompt
or whatever you like, and
   Start-up Directory to: C:\DOS5
(THAT should be the problem!).
Other normal settings, copied from mine: Video Memory=Text,
Memory Required is -1, Kb desired = -1, EMS Kb Required=0,
EMS KB Limit = 1024, XMS KB Required=0, XMS KB Limit = 1024
Display Usage=Full Screen, both "Execution" boxes are un-checked,
and "Close Window on Exit" is checked. If you need any more
details, feel free to call. Remember to Save the changes when done.
