I have a Gateway 486DX2-66V connected to an Epson LQ800 printer. My problem is that I cannot use the LPT1 option in Windows (it prints garbage when I try it) and so I have to use the LPT1.DOS option. The printer works fine with all DOS and OS/2 applications that I have tried. The Windows manual does not give an adequate explanation of just what the difference is between LPT1 and LPT1.DOS. My guess is that the "DOS" version uses BIOS and the normal one does not. My system's performance while printing is pathetic and I would like to alleviate the problem. Thanks for the help.
