lpt1 gets "out of memory" lpt2 works

I'm using WFWG 3.11 on a 486 with 4 com ports and 2 parallel ports. I have
printers defined for LPT1 (a generic daisy wheel printer - actually an old
EPSON DX-10) and LPT2 (a Deskjet 500C). I can print to the 500c on LPT2 fine
(from within windows apps), but whenever I try to print to the generic printer
on LPT1 I get a windows error "out of memory, close applications and try
later...". I have 8Mb of memory, and 490k free conventional and am running QEMM
(and LOTS of big apps that use lots of memory).

Also, I *can* print to the LPT1 printer from DOS apps, just not Windows. I've
tried the "use fast printing directly to port" option both on and off; same
results. (The DOS app I have used to print to LPT1 I can run as a .PIF from
within windows even, if that matters).

Can anyone provide any hints? E-mail preferred; rcb@3k.com
