Video crash (ATI Mach 64 card)

Hi all,

I'm having an intermittent problem with my PC: sometimes once a day,
sometimes less, the PC will suddenly beep three times rapidly, the whole
system will lock, and the video image will be cluttered with thin
vertical lines along the top fifth of the screen. My only recourse
is to hit the reset button. :<

My system is a Zeos 486dx2-66, 8 megs of ram, 256k cache, Martin
motherboard. The graphics card is an ATI Grphics Xpression, 64-bit,
with 2mb of Dram. I purchased the system in February '94. I use
Windows for Workgroups 3.11, and Qemm 7.04 is the memory manager.
The graphics card driver is version 1.51. The graphics card has
been in place since 12/94, and Qemm has been my memory manager since
the day I got the computer. This problem started only in the last
month or two. (Since I purchased the dx2-66 chip to replace the
original dx-33. Both supplied by Zeos)

Any suggestions?

Try disabling your cache temporarily and see if that changes the
problem. Also, does this happen in DOS, or Windows, or both?
If it happens in Windows only, try a different video mode for your
video card. See what you find out.

First and formost - If you have Qemm then you should run the following
command in order to detect any adapter rams:

OPTIMIZE /AUTO

then after it runs make sure that you add the following to the QEMM386.SYS
line in the config.sys

XST=C000

Just tack it on to the end of the line with all the other excluded areas.

In windows and Dos there is sometimes a need to also add the following
exclude area to the same line:

X=B000-B0FF

Just add it to the end of the line too......
