I have install my Modem under Win95 as a GVC 28800 External (the nearest one to what I have) and have noticed that it is not being sent a &D2 which would allow it to hang up on DTR toggle. Can anyone tell me which key in the registry I need to add / alter to allow this extra parameter to be sent during modem setup. -- Richard Linsley Hood | Poole, Dorset UK | email: richardlh@dakal.demon.co.uk "Programming is mirroring the world, inside a computer" Larry O'Brien 1991

You don't have to edit registry, just start Control Panel and go to the Modems section. Click Properties -> Connection -> Advanced. You can specify AT&D2 in the Extra Settings line. These commands will be sent to the modem after Win95 has passed its standard settings, Ilkka

You can change this using the control panel. Select 'modems', in the 'general' tab, click the properties button, in the 'connection' tab click the advanced button, and add your settings to the 'extra settings' field. Steve

As others have said, you don't need to edit the registry to send additional commands. However FYI you'll find the various modem strings/commands under: \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\Modem\000x where x=0 if you only have one modem installed. -- Pat Chaney PGP key available from public key servers Wokingham, UK

I have a string in my setup, which >appears to work OK, and it starts with AT. Perhaps I stated that myself somewhere too. I based it on having entered a string without 'AT', finding it worked, then looking in ModemLog.txt to see that Win95 had prepended 'AT' to it. I suppose Win95 might check if you have put 'AT' and not add another one, otherwise I reckon ATAT would mean 'set auto answer mode' and 'use tone dialling'. -- Clarke Brunt (clarke@brunt.demon.co.uk)

Win95 puts it on for you. Hi Clarke, Do you mean that if you put it in the string, and Win95 does the same, you get "ATAT.....etc."? I have it in my extra string, but my MODEMLOG.TXT only shows one "AT" at the beginning. Perhaps you mean that if it's not there, Win95 puts it in for you, but if it is, it doesn't? I have a string in my setup, which > appears to work OK, and it starts with AT. I had problems using ATxx but after reading the Microsoft Resource Kit Book and Livingston and Straub's book win '95 Secrets I noticed that you should NOT use the AT 'prefix'. So I tried it without the 'AT' and lo and behold what I wanted to do with my 'extra settings' worked fine. So there !
