Ivan, Please go to comp.os.linux and read the FAQ when it appears there.
It is posted about every week. You can run X windows on your system, but
it would be very slow and probably not worth it.

I am on a 386/25, with 8 megs of RAM, and X win was fast.. But picture
viewing (gif, jpg, etc) was slow because of all the overhead. It just
takes too long. 20 seconds to view a 640x480x256 GIF! With a 486 this
time is trimmed to 5 seconds.

That's just my experience, I may have had it configured poorly (doubt it).

They recommend at least 8 megs of RAM for x win. If you want to just peddl
with the unix like utils, 2 meg may be enough. But for compiling you need
at least 4 megs.
