DESQview/X problems

Hello Everyone:

Last week, I installed new DESQview/X software on my PC. I encountered
a number of problems in dv/x area.

I installed Novell LAN Workplace on my PC after I installed DV/X software.
I looked for a way to attach DV/X to ODI interface driver but I can't find a
way to set it up. Have I re-install DV/X software or is there any way to attach
DV/X to ODI interface system?

Since I have DELL 310 (slow 16 Mhz 386SX) with two megabytes of main
memory, DV/X is very slow. When 256-color display server was installed, I moved
my mouse device and DV/X responsed me about 5 seconds later and moved its
pointer to other place. When 16-color display server was installed, DV/X
responsed faster. With both display servers, DV/X was very slow. For example,
I opened a window, DV/X took several minutes to open a window completely!
Also DV/X sometimes hung up and did not response anything execpt the mouse
pointer after it was loaded!

Do you have any solutions about all problems? If so, I will appericate
that. Thanks you!

That's your problem. DV/X uses about 2MB of memory for display stuff
when using the 256 color server...and about a meg when in 16 color mode.
What that means for you, is that you need more actuall ram and *MUCH*
less swap from disk.

I just received my long-awaited free copy of the subject software.
I haven't tried it yet.

Have you installed the network drivers of dv/x. If so go back in and
run setup. Then try and install a network....

2 megabytes is really not enough to run dv/x. Well some would quibble
with that. Go buy more memory. 4 meg is minimum. 8 is optimal. I
upgraded to 16 and I'm really happy. If you can/don't want to increase
your memory try standard vga, 16 colors. The X server 'caches' the
video memory so that is why low color/low resolution is the best for
low memory systems...

Good Luck.

Ditto. Does anybody know of an ODI-compliant SLIP driver? I remember seeing
a shim to put a packet-driver interface on an ODI driver, but not the reverse.

BOOTP under Novell TCP/IP Transport for DOS????

I got mine yesterday, almost exactly 5 count'em *FIVE* months after
I ordered it (yes I'm unhappy). Upon perusing the manual it appears that
there is no BOOTP client support...... I have some 30+ users running with
BOOTP to configure them. I refuse to switch, especially with most of those
users soon to be on a new subnet -- i.e. getting all new IP addresses!

Does anyone know of a PD or 3rd party BOOTP client for the Novell
Transport? Does the full LanWorkPlace include BOOTP client support? (If so
does Quarterdeck plan to offer it?) Or did I just miss the information in
that oh-so-exhaustive documentation??????

Thanks in advance for any info,
Richard
