Forget DOS and edlin, it's not worth bothering with when there are more
versatile batch editors available. e.g., using SED to change line 15,

sed '15s/change/modify/g' <file1 >file2

ftp ftp.cdrom.com /pub/simtel/msdos/textutil/
sed15x.zip 21163 911015 Unix-compatible streaming editor v1.5 EXE/docs

ftp ftp.cdrom.com /pub/garbo/garbo_pc/editor/
u-sedit2.zip SED v2.0; unixish stream line editor for MS-DOS
