You don't even have to risk that.
Don't BOOT from the MSDOS 3.3 floppy; just copy the MSDOS 3.3 version of
RESTORE to a floppy. Then use that program to restore the backup diskettes
on the PCDOS 6.3 system. I doubt if you will have any complaints from the
RESTORE software about the DOS version, but if you do, just use SETVER
to fix it.

This solution will work with any disk compression, also.
