Cross-posted to: comp.os.msdos.misc dungeon.support.msdos microsoft.public,win3x_wfw_dos Hi, I have a PC which hangs when running MSD (version 2.10). When starting- up it reads "..checking your system" and locks-up. Trying MSD /I causes it to drop to the C:\ prompt with the MSD "..checking your system" screen still displayed. Trying MSD 2.11 (from a network drive) with /I starts MSD OK and all the buttons work except the "OS Version" button which locks up the PC when tried. Using the DOS "ver" command from DOS or a DOS Window reports 6.20. Using WinVer reports Windows for Workgroups 3.11. What gives? Note: this PC also has other problems - which is why I was using MSD in the first place. Basically, it refuses to run many DOS programs from Windows for Workgroups. Other PCs of exactly the same type work fine. Any thoughts/suggestions appreciated. -- Keith Taylor

Keith: As you are quick to point out, this PC's problems may not relate to MSD. A couple of ideas for you... 1. MSD has been updated a few times since 2.11. You'll find the updates on the MS Download Service, and probably on the Microsoft web site, though I am not quite sure where. 2. Try cold booting the computer, and hold down the F5 key for a clean boot. This ought to leave you at the C:> prompt after deliberately skipping your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files. Now try MSD. If it works fine, then something is wrong in the way the system software is configured.
