I'm not sure if anyone has posted this yet, but I recently noticed that in the spellchecker for GeoWrite, the options 'Add to User Dictionary' and 'Suggest fromUser Dictionary' both have the Alt-U hot-key. And it always seems to default to the Add option.

The ability to set a default size, position, etc for an application window. Someone mentionned X-stuff for GEOS. Some friends of mine who develop X-apps (and Motif stuff) for networked systems say it may not be that hard, from what they've seen of GEOS in action. From what I recall, it basically involved adding to the communications and networking program(s) and kernel, and since GEOS uses the Motif interface, that part of the code would be a snap. These guys haven't used PC's much, and are used to working with high-end workstations so they may have given a very optomistic outlook. When I mentionned that GEOS was developed on SPARC stations, their eyes lit up and they wondered if it was being marketted on that platform, since it looks great and would give 'professionals' who use workstations at work and have a PC at home the same interface and make their lives generally easier.

I don't suppose they'd want to give it a shot? ;)

Actually, GEOS doesn't *have* to use the Motif interface, it could use an
interface more reminiscent of X, or OpenLook or OpenWindows or anything, but
Motif seems to work nicely. :)

My impression is that GEOS has a lot more in common with the systems used
on "high-end workstations" (the NeXT in particular) than it has in common
with traditional PC software.

Sounds like a good idea to me, and, though I doubt it would happen really soon,
I'll be the first to point out that all the pieces are in place for it to
happen. Why? Well, look at it this way: GeoWorks is generally viewed as
being buddy-buddy with Digital Research (DR-DOS/GEOS integration is wonderful).
DR is owned by Novell. GEOS 2.0 is slated to include NetWare code, which
indicates even more cooperation with Novell. Conveniently, Novell just made a
deal with AT&T to buy USL (Unix Systems Laboratories, or whatever it stands
for).
So, if someone at a high-enough level had the idea, Voila! The next release
of Unix (System V, revision whatever-the-heck-it-is) includes this nifty
little GUI that people can also get for their PC, so they can take documents
back and forth easily, etc.
Of course, your high-end workstation friends should already be aware of the
SoftPC emulators for NeXT and Sparc.... ;)
