inexpensive or free programming language?

I've read about the SDK. This sounds great for professional developers,
but there aren't any languages available otherwise, and in any case
no native-mode compilers running inside PC-GEOS. If GEOS wants to be
considered a "viable" operating system, an inexpensive C (or other language)
compiler is essential (perhaps a port of gcc or something similar).

I assume most people running GEOS don't have huge budgets, and that many of
them enjoy programming. If an inexpensive language/free language came out,
I'd be willing to "port" and expand my Logo interpreter which is now
running on Sunview. Would other people be willing to write GEOS programs, if
they had the tools?

Yes, Chuck, but remember that this is the *first* release of the SDK.
I certainly don't expect GeoWorks to hold off delivering the SDK until
there's a cheap native GEOS compiler. That would imply a further
delay of years.

I'm all for a cheap GEOS-native <insert language here> compiler or
interpreter, but GeoWorks' first priority has to be getting a good SDK
out the door that at least a professional developer can use -- even if
the average Joe User can't afford it. From my perspective, it's the
lack of third-party apps that's *killing* PC/GEOS right now; they need
to get a good SDK out the door fast. After that they maybe should
work on a port of gcc or something, but not before.

Maybe, but I'm not a PC development kind of guy. I'd love to see your
Logo for GEOS interpreter if you port it, though.
