I run Ian Stewartson's sh clone on top of DOS with Peter Heitman's PiCnix utility set in /bin. PiCnix has almost everything, and what it didn't have was easy to either download as PD/shareware code (a unix-like calendar utility, for example) or write for myself (I wrote my own mkdir and rmdir routines, something like 10 lines of code, each). All the above-mentioned software should be available on SIMTEL20, or in one of its mirrors (eg. wuarchive.wustl.edu). It's also available on BIX and Compuserve. ms_sh comes with sources, and picnix can be registered for $30, which gets you the sources (however, the material I have has '88 dates in it, so I don't know if Heitman is still in the PiCnix business - we'll see if my registration comes back in the mail... :-). ps. There are also excellent implementations of compress, tar, sed, and vi running around out there, too, not to mention the uupc mail/uucp package for MS-DOS (all of which I have and use). -- ============================================================================== | John M.
