I want to express my major disappointment with MOST of the
character-based windowing system archived in Simtel. One of the
essential reasons that I want to use windowing system instead of a
single screen is the ability to write to different windows AT THE
SAME TIME. However, many, many windowing systems do not permit
writing to a window that is being covered.
The following is a representative excerpt from one of those products:
............................. XXX supports overlapping windows, and
any window that has been established can be addressed at any time,
even if the windows are overlapped. XXX will make the window that is
addressed the "active" window. This means if the window is
overlapped and addressed with any window function, that window will
be "floated" to the top and made to be the active window.
I can't possibly imagine the above "feature" can be said to be
"supporting overlapping windows". That author's understanding of
support is certainly different from mine. Any attempt to write
multi-tasking programs using the above package will probably cause
intolerable flickering of popping windows.
Can the authors of all those window systems add this enhancement?
