Talking about multitasking:

when i format a: and b: together under windows (3.1) via ms-dos format.xxx
and format.xxx is writing the boot-sectors the 'proces' stucks
'lang leve' de non-reentrancy of dos !

I think unix has no problems with it (I can't test it)

example of multitasking:

formatting drive a: & b:
compressing a big file on your harddisk
downloading software from a BBS
writing this text while printing two different files on two printers
