Fortran Programming

I am looking for information on the Fortran Programming Language. I would
like to know some things about it, as I am considering taking it up. Such
as: What would it be useful for? Would it be useful in the computer
workforce today? Is it a difficult language to learn? Can it be compiled
into a .EXE or .COM style program?

Also, while I am sending a message, I would like to ask an Internet based
question:

Should I send these messages world or a more local dist.?

I would prefer personal, E-mail responses so I can be sure to get them.

Thank you,

Shawn Spotanski
