Greets,

I'm some questions concerning one of TIMESYNC.NLM's parameters, the
"Hardware Clock" parameter.

Novell gives the following description for this parameter in their
documentation under "Supervising The Network"/"Managing Network Time
Synchronization"

excerpt:

TIMESYNC Hardware Clock | Turn this parameter OFF only if
Default = ON | this server uses an external time
                        | source (such as a radio clock).
                        | All servers in the same tree
                        | should have the same settings for
                        | this parameter.

Question #1:

Although it doesn't specifically say such, I assume that you want to
turn this option off on a REFERENCE or SINGLE REFERENCE file server
using an external time source so that TIMESYNC doesn't periodically
grab time from the CMOS clock. (This is what I observed with test
software). Is this in fact correct?

Question #2:

I don't understand the line "All servers in the same tree should
have the same settings for this parameter." I *can* understand why it
would be important on a REFERENCE/SINGLE file server for this to be
turned off by why on other servers? If, for example, I have five
servers in my directory tree, four of them are SECONDARY servers, and
the fifth is a SINGLE REFERENCE server why do I care about the
"Hardware Clock" setting for the four secondary servers? Their
ultimate reference to time is the SINGLE REFERENCE server anyway.
Could someone shed some light on this?

Thank you for reading, any advice is appreciated!
