To all,

I posted to these newsgroups a few weeks back looking for help on slow
backups.  Thanks to those who replied so quickly.  My request this time
is to find out what kinds of hardware and software people are using to
backup NetWare 4.1 servers and what kind of backup rates you're
getting.  I'll post a summarized list to the newsgroups.  Here are my
questions and thanks for your responses.  Please reply to:

Note:  I'm interested in those who back up NetWare 4.1 servers, whether
they back up over a network or to a local backup device.  Please give
the detail you feel necessary to answer the questions.


1) What is the backup server hardware? (For example, Pentium 133 Mhz,
PCI-bus, Adaptec AHA2940, 4mm DAT drive running NetWare 4.1, DAT drive
on separate SCSI controller, etc.)  If backup server and serving being
backed up are separate machines, please give brief details for both.





2) Is backup done locally on the server or over the network? (For
example, local or network)



3) What is the network setup? (For example, FDDI, Token Ring, Ethernet,
FDDI/Ethernet, etc.)



4) What backup software is used and what version?  Are you using any
kind of push agent?



5) On the night you do a full backup, how many files and how many
Gigabytes of data do you have to back up?  (Estimates are fine.)



6) What throughput rate do you get on you backup drives, that is, how
fast can you back up data?  (For example, 25MB/min)
