Mike, 

Are the applications which are printing windows apps?  

I had some problems printing via capture from within windows.  
I was capturing LPT1 output to the network printer.  I solved 
the problem by turning off "fast printing direct to port" in 
the print manager.

Get into Print Manager. Select options, printer setup.  Select the
printer driver which is giving problems, and click connect.  At the
very bottom of the connect window, make sure that the box beside 
Fast Printing Direct to Port is not checked (x).
