You need to have server.exe, install, sbackup, smdr, etc, plus your disk driver on the DOS partition so that you can load enough of NetWare to create the SYS volume and reload from tape. The best form of NetWare disaster recovery I have come across is a product called Replica from Stac. It not only backups up the NetWare volumes but also the partition table and DOS partition. If the server disk crashes, all you need to do is put in a new disk and boot off the disaster recovery floppies that Replica creates, and it will automatically recover the entire server.
