Following this suggestion I got PMView printing! This work also
fixed another rather subtle problem but more of that below. OS/2's
printing subsystem comes across as a strange beast!

I found that all my printer drivers could be deleted except the
"FxPrint.fax" "driver" (there was no such filename as well) which could
not be removed even after deleting the Fax print object and further even
deleting "FxPrint" under PM_Devices with Inimaint did not make any
difference. Moreover the icon did not look anything like the blue and
white icon associated with PMFax's FxPrint.drv. Deleting the folder
D:\OS2\DLL\FXPRINT and restarting did not make any difference.

I pressed on despite not being able to delete the remaining fxprinter
driver icon with D:\OS2\DLL\FXPRINT not present, on reinstalling
FxPrint, using PMFax 3's driver and my Lexmark driver PMView stopped
giving the above error message and presented the desired printing
dialogue box and I could print! It would register all further installed
printers except an object I call DOS which uses the IBMNull driver to
allow WinOS2 programs to print (IBMNull allows WinOS2 and DOS printer
drivers to control the printer. It just passes every byte straight
thru). Does PMView recognise that, it being an OS/2 program, would make
no sense to use the IBMNull print object?

PMView's link to the printer objects seemed to be fragile. During my
cut and try experiments, when I deleted a printer object (not the DOS
one which made no difference regardless) and recreated it, it became
inaccessible to PMView! The only way to make all of the print objects
available again was to delete the lot and start again!

The subtle problem I mentioned above was that programs that print
thru FxPrint would default to certain standard settings away from what I
wanted: letter size (vs A4), LPT emulation to IBM Proprinter X24E (vs
Off). When say CopyShop printed to fax I'd get a page image in PMFax
about 25 mm long with nothing else, i.e. garbage. Each time the program
was restarted I'd have to manually set the printer settings. This had
to be done even though the settings in the fxprinter object were set
correctly.
