I'm running "OS/2 NetBIOS over TCP/IP" (aka TCPBEUI) right now -- I need it for one remote box, all the other boxes are local and can use plain NetBIOS -- and have a TCPBEUI tips page: http://asavage.fdns.net/OS2/TCPBEUI/TCPBEUI.html Mike T. said that plain NetBIOS isn't routeable outside the local LAN. But it is, using TCP/IP as a transport, and Win9x makes it absurdly easy to do this (I don't know about W2k/NT5), creating the potential for a large hackers hole into your data by making local NetBIOS resources available to the world. The beginning of this thread was Raqueteer wondering why a username/password combo was necessary to be defined on both boxes and to match, and I said, "because you want it that way" :). That's why I mentioned Gibson Research's excellent port tester: https://grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 and press the "Test my Shields" and "Probe my Ports" buttons. -- Regards, Al S. * Hillman & Rootes Group manuals online: http://asavage.fdns.net/Hillman * Ford Falcon manuals online: http://FalconFAQ.fdns.net
