I have purchased (by credit card) over the net. Just be sure you are 
on a well known, secure web site, using the highest security level 
that is available. (I don't know anything about fortify, so you are on
your own there). It is my personal opinion that sending your credit 
card information over a secure web link is far safer than handing it 
over the counter at a store, or telling someone over the phone. The 
riskiest thing that people do with credit cards, is throw away the 
carbon paper (usually done by the vendor), after all, it does have 
your number, and a sample of your signature, on it.
